The Best Neighborhoods to Live in La Paz — Based on Your Lifestyle

August 11, 20253 min read

Because it’s not just about finding a house. It’s about finding your place.

One of the questions I hear the most is:

“What’s the best area to live in La Paz?”

And while there are practical answers —safety, services, views— what I’ve come to believe is that it’s not just about finding a good neighborhood.
It’s about finding your place.
That place where you open the door, look around, and feel:
I could stay here.

Here’s what I’ve learned —not just as a real estate agent, but as someone who lives, walks, and observes this city every day.

El Conchalito: My home by the mangroves

I live in El Conchalito. It’s a quiet neighborhood with mostly Mexican families —safe, friendly, peaceful. And what makes it special to me is that it faces the mangroves.

It’s like seeing a different personality of the sea: softer, slower, more reflective.

It’s a place where life feels… still and grounded. Neighbors wave. The silence is part of the landscape.
It’s not full of tourists. It’s full of everyday life.

Los Olivos: calm, with everything close by

I also lived in Los Olivos for a while, and it always gave me a sense of peace.
But with the added bonus of being close to shops, schools, and main roads.
It was a practical and comforting place —and that matters too.

For families with children

Honestly, most neighborhoods in La Paz are good for raising kids.
This city still has something rare: peace and safety.

It all depends on the atmosphere parents want.
If you’re looking for nature, space, and quiet —
El Centenario or El Comitán are great options.
If you want to be closer to schools or the office, areas like Bellavista, Camino Real, or Fidepaz could work well too.

For those retiring in La Paz

Many people come here to retire, and they often fall in love with places like El Centenario or El Comitán.

Why? Because of the spacious properties, the chance to build a guesthouse for visiting family, or room for an RV or a boat.
And in many spots —the views of the bay are simply breathtaking.

For young people or couples without kids

If you want to live near culture, coffee shops, restaurants, and history, I’d suggest:
Downtown (Centro) or El Esterito.

These areas still hold the charm of La Paz’s historic architecture.
They’re full of color, energy, and a growing food scene. It’s ideal for people who love movement, stories, and good espresso.

Areas with soul (and growth)

Some areas are growing fast and still full of soul and opportunity:

  • El Conchalito, for its nature and potential

  • El Esterito, for its character and location

  • Parts of Chametla, near El Centenario, which are developing quietly

  • And of course, El Centenario and El Comitán, which continue to expand

If you don’t know La Paz and feel a bit lost…

That’s okay. Moving to a new place can be overwhelming.
My advice?
Don’t look for “the best” neighborhood. Look for your neighborhood.
The one that fits your rhythm, your energy, your way of living.

And if you’re not sure where to start —I can help.
With the right guidance and the right questions,
we’ll find the perfect place for you.
